CUET (Common University Entrance Test)

CUET is a centralized, computer-based national entrance examination for admission to undergraduate, postgraduate, and other programs across central universities, state universities, deemed universities, and private universities in India. It aims to standardize the admissions process and reduce reliance on multiple entrance exams.

Key Features (Current Structure):

Conducted by: National Testing Agency (NTA).

Levels:

CUET (UG) – For undergraduate programs.

CUET (PG) – For postgraduate programs.

Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Medium: Offered in 13 languages.

Participating Universities: Hundreds of universities accept CUET scores, including:

All Central Universities (mandatory for UG programs)

Many State, Private, and Deemed Universities (voluntarily)

CUET (UG) – For Undergraduate Admissions

Exam Structure:

The test is divided into four sections:

Section IA & IB: Languages (Tests reading comprehension and verbal ability in chosen languages)

Section II: Domain-Specific Subjects (Based on the chosen academic discipline, e.g., Physics, History, Economics, etc.)

Section III: General Test (General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning)

Key Points:

Candidates can choose a combination of subjects/languages based on the program requirements of their target universities.

NTA does not prescribe a specific syllabus; the exam is based on the Class 12 NCERT curriculum for most subjects.

Eligibility:

Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent.

Specific program-wise subject prerequisites are set by individual universities.

Why CUET Was Introduced:

To create a common, equitable platform for university admissions.

To reduce the burden on students of preparing for multiple entrance exams.

To ensure transparency and standardization in the admission process.

Important to Note:

While CUET scores are widely accepted, each participating university publishes its own admission policy, including:

Which programs use CUET scores.

Weightage given to CUET vs. Class 12 marks.

Specific subject/language requirements.

Candidates must check the university’s information brochure before selecting their CUET subjects.
